Bronze Sculpture
The Story of SERGO
In 2010 we were commissioned to produce a life-sized bronze sculpture of a German Shepherd.
This was going to serve as a monument for all the K9 dogs that have served in the Sheriff Department.
If you know how much time a handler spends with his partner dog, then you know just how much of a family member these dogs become.
An officer once told us that he spent more time with his dog than he did any other family member, including his own wife.
When producing a life-sized sculpture, scale is everything!
We started by taking details photos of Sergo, and then measuring all parts of his body to make sure the scale of the final sculpture would be perfect. Sergo was calm and excited, but apprehensive.
Almost all sculpture starts out in the form of clay. This clay is used for the basis to produce a hard-shell version of the subject, which is used to eventually produce the final bronze sculpture.
The base of the sculpture is a 6000 pound block of pure black granite, with the Sheriff star carved all the way through it (by hand).
It is a powerful and significant monument that reminds us of the faithfulness of a dear dog.
When we produced this sculpture, we knew that it would be a monument that would eventually be filled with the memories of past dogs, as they faithfully completed their service.
However, at the time we did not give the slightest thought to one day, Sergo would also take his place on this monument.
Today, you can find the faithful dog Sergo inscribed on this monument, and we are thankful that we were able to be part of something that is so valuable to so many people.
